In September 2002, thanks to Romeo ROV's control architecture design, some operations at sea in the Kongsfjord in Norway were remotely controlled via Internet by means of a pilot console based on a Java Applet suited to run on any computer connected to the Internet and equipped with a Web browser. Through a wireless communication system connecting the supply vessel to the Italian Station, developed in collaboration with CNR-SR&T, it was possible to be world-wide connected with Romeo to follow the experiments and even to pilot the robot by means of high level commands. This allowed the execution of a number of missions under the control of some teams of Marine scientists - from different European countries - who, without moving from their laboratories, conducted real-time experiments in the underwater environment of the Kongsfjord. As a matter of fact, this was the first Romeo's campaign in the Kongsfjord - after two successful Antarctic Expedition - and this thanks to the very fruitful collaboration with the CNR-Polarnet. This last campaign had two main goals:
